Artist Daryl Zang:: Zang Studios

Zang_sc_2

Artist Daryl Zang creates with a decidedly feminine touch.  Her beautiful pieces such as Tossed and Turned and For Better or Worse are showcased in her new splash page at www.zangstudios.com

Daryl Zang talks about her work, "I describe myself as a figurative painter, but my work exists on two different levels and my process evolves in two stages. I strongly believe that, for me, the foundation of a great painting lies in the successful interpretation of the human form. As an artist, I have always found the complexities of figurative painting a welcome challenge. The anatomy and proportion of the body have to be absolutely correct and painted to convey an animate quality in order to be successful. Each work is a journey though..." Read more

Great things to do a on rainy day

Because the Nor'easter is going to be with us for a while here on the east coast, here are some lovely suggestions on rainy day activities.  (found via one of my favorite interior design blogs, Apartment Therapy NYC)

Designing and writing, writing and designing...it's all communication

Having just spent a rainy Sunday writing an article for Ink Publications, I sure wish I had found this resource on Saturday.  But perhaps if that were the case I would have spent all day Sunday reading Daphne Gray-Grant's Article Archive on helpful tips and resources for those of us who write for publication.  Features include such topics as "Why speed counts when it comes to writing", "The art of the interview", "The three biggest mistakes that website writers make" and many more excellent articles. If you write you must check out Daphne's site and also sign up for her free newsletter.  (Daphne's site found via PagePlane an excellent design blog and resource found via Designers-Who-Blog)

The Best Thing about Blogging

We've all heard (I hope) that blogging is a great tool for business.  This week I have been reminded of another wonderful, and perhaps unexpected, aspect of blogging.  It can open you up to like-minded people and resources from around the world.  To check my feeds and relax reading the words of people whom I've grown to respect around the globe is amazingly cool. To actually correspond with them is even better. I don't think this type of intimacy is available by any other medium.  Conversations can be started in real time, added to, and expanded on by some of the best minds in the industry. I am often awed and inspired by the writing of these talented and eloquent people.  In the last months it has been my pleasure to meet via blogging such people as Debbie Millman whose podcasts I also often enjoy, Cat Morley over at Designers Who Blog, Eric Karjaluoto at ideasonideas and smashLAB and so many more. I can only hope that one day I will meet them all in person. Thank you all for gracing my world with your words.

Cleaning Up :: Added Resources for Art and Design

Hello All, I've spent some time tweaking ArtLOOK.  It is after all springtime and as I wait for the upcoming nor'easter to arrive this evening (for heavens sakes!) showering us with rain, wind and thunderstorms, I've created a new header above to match the design over at Dragonfly.  I've also spent some considerable time updating the sidebar.  You'll find that outdated links have been removed and many more great sites and blogs have been added.  I hope you enjoy them.

Nice Things People Say

  • Art On Groton Bank
"I am very impressed with the work Lisa has done for us in this short time. She has a light touch, very appealing and attractive, plus real style." Audrey Heard
  • David Black regarding an INK feature arts article:
"I was just handed the most incredible magazine article that I think has ever been written about me. It is just fantastic and people are presenting me with copies of the magazine. Really beautifully written, really beautifully written and no one has ever put all the pieces together as nicely as you have. Thank you so much."
  • Re: Article on Slater Museum
"Ok, Don't stand in a doorway when you read this as you may become hopelessly lodged... Hang on to your head, an ego boost attached... I love it Lisa. Spot on nicely done, access-able, significant and of a standard. I'm stoked, can't thank you enough, very happy and impressed." Jeff Lilly - INK Publishing
  • Designers Who Blog Says:
"The Art and Design is written in a easy manner, centred on the design community, and points to discussions I can use...It’s my kind of blog as it keeps on giving."

Cat Morely, "I enjoy your writing and will be checking back with ArtLOOK to keep up what you come up with next. I so envy those who can write well."
  • The Art Guide
"I am glad you are a perfectionist- You have given us a world-class site that will be an asset to The Guide as we move forward and expand." Matt Holmes, The Art Guide
  • Artist Julia Rogoff
"I found Lisa Mikulski to be just the right resource at the right time: focused, professional, with a great eye for color and design, and with very fast turnaround time for getting images up on the web -- an artist's best friend and there when you need her! She's got a really good command of the two worlds we as artists now inhabit: the technical issues of cyberspace in today's market, combined with bottom line issues of artistic judgement. I highly recommend her as a great resource for web design, artistic and gallery management."
