I'm going down...

For over a week now, I've been sick with some cold/flu/thing. It's in my chest, then my head, then my chest and head. It keeps moving around. This was suppose to be my vacation (at home) to catch up on some chores around the house, paperwork, and take a breath. Well taking a breath would be cool...IF I COULD BREATH!

Despite emptying a box of kleenex and a box of Tylenol Cold and Sinus... I've been a trooper. My thinking was "I've taken a vacation to accomplish things and by god, I'm going do it." Yeah.. ok. I have several rooms in my house that require painting. Due to a recent construction project there are boxes everywhere containing the elements of my life and organization is well...NOT.

It's friday. Any serious painting is just not going to happen because every morning I wake up with a body that is heavy and dragging as I push it through the day. Fine...I succumb. I'm taking the weekend to stay in bed (this might just kill me), read, watch movies and generally except that... I'm going down.

I wish you fast recovery, take care!

It's a cool clear tuesday morning with a sense of coming winter already. Hope you're feeling better Lisa

Lisa,

RE: "Im going down"

Stop and think about this! Maybe this is your bodies way of overiding your minds decision, in order to prevent a burnout scenario, in the near future. My friends wife had a very serious stroke at 27 years of age. She was doing her job, her bosses job and her bosses, bosses job. Twelve hours a day, 100MPH, for five years, and then WHAM!!! a stroke.

Just remember, when you got to a funeral you never see a U-Haul trailer behind a hearse!! In other words you can't take it with you. Yeah, I know, I like my Manhattan/SONO dinners and drinks as much as anybody and money is GOOD!! but Jim Morrison said it and I beleive it....NO ONE HERE GETS OUT ALIVE!! SOOO...scheduled "down time" is good for a person.

Mark, Thank you for this. And you are absolutely right. I do find that if I overwork for long periods of time, I will get sick with a cold or flu. It is my bodies way of saying "Ok, you didn't listen when I suggested you STOP, so now I'm going to make you STOP." In fact, I'm still not feeling quite up to speed yet... sooo, I'm really considering some life style changes here (maybe take a Sunday off now and again, eh?)

  • David Black regarding an INK feature arts article:
"I was just handed the most incredible magazine article that I think has ever been written about me. It is just fantastic and people are presenting me with copies of the magazine. Really beautifully written, really beautifully written and no one has ever put all the pieces together as nicely as you have. Thank you so much."
  • Re: Article on Slater Museum
"Ok, Don't stand in a doorway when you read this as you may become hopelessly lodged... Hang on to your head, an ego boost attached... I love it Lisa. Spot on nicely done, access-able, significant and of a standard. I'm stoked, can't thank you enough, very happy and impressed." Jeff Lilly - INK Publishing
  • Designers Who Blog Says:
"The Art and Design is written in a easy manner, centred on the design community, and points to discussions I can use...It’s my kind of blog as it keeps on giving."

  • Artist Julia Rogoff
"I found Lisa Mikulski to be just the right resource at the right time: focused, professional, with a great eye for color and design, and with very fast turnaround time for getting images up on the web -- an artist's best friend and there when you need her! She's got a really good command of the two worlds we as artists now inhabit: the technical issues of cyberspace in today's market, combined with bottom line issues of artistic judgement. I highly recommend her as a great resource for web design, artistic and gallery management."
