ArtReview Power 100

I received a nice email from Mr. James Westcott informing me of ArtReview Power 100, a digital edition of ArtReview. ArtReview Power 100 is out as of today, Monday October 16, 2006, in a digital format and you can view the magazine for free on your computer screen. The format is pretty cool and flips like an online book so it's not like viewing a website which as we know is a bit tough for compenhensive reading activities. The ads look nice and the articles seem relevant and inviting.

This is ArtReview:Digital and you too can register here to receive it (with no future obligations). It's the entire magazine online, in the exact same format as the print edition. The next six issues are free. My only issue is with the registration process which asked for my birthday and profession. I don't know...I don't like having to answer personal questions to read a magazine...but otherwise...a pretty interesting publication using a nice technology for magazine perusal.

This show will run concurrently with the Porvoo exhibition in Finland giving exposure on two continents to the work of Mr. Loisa. "The reason we decided to run concurrent shows is due to the actual theme of the Latitudes exhibition. Latitudes, or Vyöhykkeellä, reflects the notion of 2 same things happening at the same time but in different places. Fortunately for us, the US show will have the presence of the artist to discuss his various pieces. This makes our US show a little bit different." says Mikulski with a smile. Mr. Loisa, also a composer, has created a lovely soundtrack to compliment the show.

The show will also be seen in conjunction with the work of Glynnis Sorrentino, owner of Gallery at 85 Main Street. Visit Ms. Sorrentino's website.

An Email From Debbie Millman

Received a lovely email from Designer Debbie Millman last week. And WOW...now I'm thrilled to say Debbie has added ArtLOOK to her blogroll.  Thanks Debbie...I'm absolutely honored, not to mention inspired!

As many of you readers may know, I've had the pleasure of working for some time with artist David Black. You've seen his artwork here, here and here.  David's website appears in select sites in the sidebar and his blog is one of my favorites.  Today I listened to David's interview on the Faith Middleton Show, WNPR.  What a delight.  As always, David was well spoken and entertaining as he spoke about his breakfast with First Lady, Laura Bush; his experiences as a Broadway Producer and his upcoming show Listeners at PH Miller.

A New Domain Name for The Art Guide

There are now two ways to access the official site for The Art Guide. Matt Holmes and the folks in Madison Connecticut have registered www.theartguide.com in addition to the established URL www.theartguideonline.com for the gallery, artist and museums monthly publication.  All email addresses stay the same for now, so if you have those listed in your address book no need to worry. Take a visit to www.theartguide.com to check out the exhibitions listings and the monthly calendar for happenings in CT, MA, RI and NY art scene.  Autumn and leaf peeking season is an excellent time to do a New England road trip and see some great art as well.

A stroll through the blogosphere

Back on September 13th I decided to turn off my TV.  OK...not completely turn it off but I decided to not watch a constant stream of 24 hour news. I have to say, it's been great.  There are less explosions, murders, killings, war and stress in my life.  I accomplish far more work and the work is of a higher quality. I love the sound of silence. Yes, I'll watch Larry King and Anderson on CNN at night, an occasional episode of Law & Order and Project Runaway when I need "brain candy"...but that's about it.

This lack of TV has given me far more time to read books, blogs, newspapers and magazines, to think and to be creative. This evening I took a stroll through the blogosphere. Usually because I'm so rushed for time, I generally read the new posts right from my Bloglines feeder but you know, I think we really miss something when doing that. I've made it my mission tonight to actually visit the blogs.  It is there that we really get to taste the personality of the blogger. Their sites designed with the things they do and love. The color palette. The photos and the layout of the site. Here's some of the excellent blogs I experienced tonight:

I watched the YouTube video at Debbie Millman about A Day in the Life of Artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, Downtown 81. I watched all 8 videos. Merlin Mann at 43Folders has a excellent post, entitled Priorities Don't Exist in a Vacuum. Outstanding and after having read it, I exhaled...big time!  KERBLOG - I like it a lot. Noisy Decent Graphics, always good, points us to the Pentagram Blog. Cult Design and Finland for Thought are highly recommended to those who embrace Scandinavia and Scandinavian Design...And last but not least, I came upon Lelia Katherine Thomas' Blog. Huh...I think it's time to update my blogroll but for now I'm off to research the Slater Museum for my upcoming interview for INK Publications.
